Whale Beach Surfing

Bring out those surfboards and get ready to ride like crazy at Whale Beach!

Known for its wonderful waves, Whale Beach is where the surfing hotspot called “The Wedge” can be found. Also referred to as “Whale Beach Lefts” and “Whaley Corner,” The Wedge is at the northern corner of Whale Beach, just a quick walk from Whale Beach itself. Because of its easy accessibility, The Wedge is often host to numbers of surfers from all over.

The waves breaking on Whale Beach are excellent for surfing due their world-class quality. Fast, powerful and rising from fifty to a hundred and fifty meters tall, these waves make for outstanding training and practices, for all kinds of surfers. Serious surfers will enjoy the challenge of taking on The Wedge, while beginners can get all the exercise they need. Whale Beach can get a bit crowded on weekends though, so if you want to surf in peace, a weekday would be best. And watch out for possible rips and undertows, as well as for rocks you might hit while enjoying a good ride.

A local organization called the Whale Beach Surf Life Saving Club has its Club House on the shores of Whale Beach. With a large membership supporting it, the Whale Beach SLSC has private facilities and its members enjoy weekly beach and surfing events.
